Set in an acre of land and surrounded by fields, the nursery gives children plenty of access to fresh air, space and beautiful Hampshire scenery. Staff and children enjoy splendid views of the rolling countryside and love watching the cows grazing in the adjoining fields.
View from the rear of the nursery The grounds The large garden incorporates a number of different areas which have been developed to meet the needs of the children.
Each of the 3 rooms has its own patio which is used throughout the day. There is also a large grass play area, equipped with living willow wigwams for outdoor role play and an arbour for shady storytime in the summer.
The ten-bed vegetable patch is tended by the children who enter their produce in local gardening competitions and take part in the Henry Doubleday Research Association's programme to preserve old vegetable varieties.
The children plant fragrant and colourful flowers in the sensory and butterfly garden to attract wildlife. Other areas also encourage wildlife which the children regularly investigate. These include a 'beastie corner' (where damp logs tempt worms, centipedes and the like), a 'ladybird hotel' (made by the children) and a wild flower meadow.
The building The Oak Tree is housed in a brand-new, pavilion-style building in keeping with its rural environment.
Lots of full-length windows allow children to enjoy the setting fully, while vaulted ceilings in all the rooms and soothing, natural colours and materials create a clean, bright and airy environment for both children and staff. At all times, we consider how the room looks from the perspective of a child, so most display areas are at a level where children can appreciate them and many signs, pegs etc. are set at children's height.
Being developed solely as a nursery and pre-school, the building offers excellent facilities for children of all ages. There is a fully-equipped baby room with a dedicated sleep room to ensure your baby has the chance to rest properly in the day. All rooms have out of (children's) reach heaters and electrical sockets, finger guards on doors and other safety features. About our toys and equipment Our wide range of toys are chosen for their ability to support children's development and for their enjoyment. They include many classic toys, such as building blocks and jigsaws for example, that have entertained children for generations and repeatedly shown their value in child development. We also choose toys which encourage children to develop their creativity and avoid those which are too prescriptive in their use. Where possible, we select toys made from natural materials and from sustainable resources.
